Writing’s On The Wall For Kids In The Ards ‘Big Scribble’!
The writing’s on the wall for kids (and adults too!) quite literally this month when the ‘Big Scribble’ takes place in Ards Arts Centre.
As part of the national Big Draw Campaign, people of all ages are being invited to make their mark, whether it’s a doodle, sketch or ‘tag’ and help to turn the wall of a studio in the arts centre into a large scale collaborative piece of art, with local illustrator and urban artist, Shauna McGowan, also popping in to offer inspiration and to draw.
Amy McKelvey, Community Arts Development Officer with Ards Borough Council, is encouraging local people to call by and have a scribble of their own:
“How many stories have you heard about kids drawing on the walls and furniture of their homes, more often than not with an indelible marker? This is a chance to do it and not get into any trouble!” she said. “The whole idea of the national ‘big draw’ campaign and our ‘big scribble’ is to give a rare opportunity for anyone and everyone to pick up a pen, pencil or a paintbrush, regardless of whether they consider themselves to be artistic, and have a go. I’m hoping to see lots of people drop into the arts centre to do a bit of a doodle or even something more elaborate”.
The Ards ‘Big Scribble’ takes place in the Arts Centre, Conway Square, Newtownards on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October, between 11am and 4pm. For further information contact the Arts Centre on 028 9181 0803 .
