Staff at Wee Care Day Nursery in Chichester Park South, Belfast recently completed NSPCC child protection training to ensure that they are equipped to meet the safeguarding needs of the children in their care.

Having undertaken both the NSPCC’s Basic Child Protection training and Designated Safeguarding Officer Training, the local nursery said that the process had proven “invaluable”.
Brenda Horgan, NSPCC Northern Ireland training and development consultant, said: “It is so important that those caring for children have a real understanding of what is meant by safeguarding and child abuse, and can recognise the signs and indicators of child abuse and neglect.

“This training is designed to meet that need, and to inform staff about how they should respond to concerns about the safety and welfare of a child or young person using their organisation’s child protection policy and procedures.

“The NSPCC’s Child Protection Consultancy in Northern Ireland helps organisations become safer places for children and young people, and we are delighted to be able to offer a range of skills, knowledge and experience which help organisations develop, evaluate or review their safeguarding policies, procedures and services.

“We can design and deliver a wide variety of courses and programmes to meet specific requirements across any aspect of child protection or safeguarding, and are delighted to have been able to do so for the Wee Care group.”

Karen Gillespie, co-ordinator of Wee Care, Chichester Park South, said: “The training delivered by NSPCC has been invaluable in our continuing role of safeguarding all children within Wee Care. We were delighted with the content and clarity of presentation of the NSPCC’s training in this essential subject matter.”
